Cody Perez

Bio

Cody Perez (born May 8,1986) is an American singer, musician and songwriter. He is known for lead vocals and founding member of Amerakin Overdose.

Cody was born into the entertainment business, his father was a radio DJ for a large spanish radio station, so he was surrounded by music and big personalities from a very young age. His relationship with a microphone and speaking publicly started early as well. Cody's dad would put him on the air to talk and introduce songs. Having a radio DJ for a father exposed Cody to many types of music and genres from Spanish artists like Ramon Ayala to The Doors, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin etc.

By nine years old Cody discovered heavy metal such as Metallica, Pantera and Korn. He also discovered his love for popular rap artists like Tu Pac, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Bone Thugs in Harmony, Master P, Notorious BIG. A major passion for heavier music and a love of rap was a fertile breeding ground for an emerging Nu Metal fan, so no doubt his first concert was Slipknot, One Minute Silence and Mudvayne at the age of 14. This was the ideal spark to start the fire in his heart. After the concert Cody knew what he wanted to do in life. With a microphone and his dads old acoustic guitar, Cody sang along with his favorite artists and taught himself to sing and scream as well as  play guitar. Through his teenage years Cody would put together bands with friends that further encouraged the desire to take music much more seriously. After receiving an electric guitar as a graduation gift from his mother, Cody began writing his own heavy guitar orientated songs.

After high school, Cody moved to Salem, OR and built friendships with the local musicians. He started his first band - In Vain in 2005 and played his first live shows with the band. The band eventually came to an end and Cody played in various other projects for the next couple of years. After having undesirable experience with his prior efforts of putting projects together and joining pre-existing projects, Cody grew tiresome and decided to start his very own band from the ground up. Cody founded Amerakin Overdose in July of 2009. He wanted to put together a project that stems from personal expression and view of Americas obsession with pop culture violence and sex, a project that he could pick and choose how it progressed and developed.

Cody searched for a producer/engineer that could capture the root of his musical message and soon found a local producer in Portland, OR "Human" at Human Studios. Cody showed Human a blend of bands and ideas for songs that reflected the music direction he wanted to build a band to sound like. Cody shared his vision to also have a musical act that would put on a show with theatrics and make up. Together, Cody and Human wrote the first Amerakin Overdose album over a 2 year period. The band would get the opportunity to open for many legendary national acts including Korn, Five Finger Death Punch, Static X, Powerman 5000, 36 Crazyfists, All That Remains, American Head Charge, Dope and many other national artists. The band played many large festivals including the Portland, Oregon 2011 Rockfest, the 2015 "The Gathering of the Juggalos" in Ohio. The band went on tour with Mushroomhead, Mortis, September Mourning for the "Devils Be Damned" tour. In 2018, Amerakin Overdose would play the Vans Warped Tour in Salt Lake City, Utah and would play the national Rockfest festival in Cadott, Wisconsin.

On September 30, 2016, Amerakin Overdose released their 2nd full length album "The Great Amerakin Dream" which was co-produced by Ahrue Luster (Ill Nino, Machine Head, Lions At The Gate). The album featured a single with guest vocals by Waylon Reavis (Mushroomhead, A Killer's Confession). The band shot a video for the single and hit over one million views. Waylon Reavis was also a vocal instructor to Cody prior to the release of the album.

Amerakin Overdose has released 2 full length albums and is currently working with Cristian Machado (Ill Nino, Lions At The Gate) to produce the 3rd album.

In early 2020, Cody started writing music with a much different feel than prior incarnations of his work. He wanted to show some different angles of his music taste and lighter aspects of his personality. Having a great deal of free time due to the stay at home initiative, Cody started writing almost a song a day for months composing the guitar riffs and keyboard parts with drum loops. He found a producer overseas Nikolas Roy Quemtri and began working on a solo album of new music, reflecting deep introspective views about life and very personal themes that we can all identify with.

Cody has written a ton of new material and looks forward to releasing all of it.

The first audio/video Single "Open Eyes" becomes available for streaming on all platforms August  2021 via Freestar Entertainment.
